Why would a contractor choose Buckeye? Well, in addition to their extensive metal building knowledge and can-do customer spirit, Buckeye Metals creates and sells fascinating products. Tune in for part two of our conversation with Lamar Weaver from Rocky Fork Construction in Hillsboro, OH.

1. “I like to sell a product that not everyone else has. . . ”

says Lamar. Lamar enjoys offering his customers interesting products that they can’t pick up just anywhere. One of these innovative products is Buckeye’s patented metal board and batten, Aristolath.

Many homeowners balk at the idea of board and batten because wooden siding requires a lot of maintenance. However, Aristolath bypasses that problem by bringing the signature look of board and batten combined with the durability of metal.

But what really sets Aristolath apart is its detachable batten. Each of the boards is secured by a nailing strip. The batten then clicks on top of this nailing strip.

Why does it matter whether the batten can detach? Because it makes maintenance issues super easy. If your customer mentions that there is a dent or scratch in her siding, all you need to do is pop off the batten, take off the nail strip, replace the damaged board, and pop the nail strip and batten back on.

With traditional siding installation, it’s important to start the installation from one end. With Aristolath, you can start anywhere.

One of the biggest reasons that homeowners shy away from metal is the glare. Is metal siding a hard sell for your customers? Aristolath comes in a dull matte or crinkle finish that reduces glare. “Probably 80% of the time, I push for that,” says Lamar.

2. Buckeye’s pre-notched standing seam is so convenient.

“I won’t install any other standing seam,” says Lamar. “Buckeye’s standing seam comes with a nail flange built into each panel which makes it nice. We don’t have to use the traditional clip.” With each panel already pre-notched, the fastening process can be done by one person, making installation a breeze for the Rocky Fork crew.

3. Buckeye is interested in working with contractors to make their products better.

Buckeye knows their metal products in and out. And whenever Buckeye comes out with a new product, they take the time to teach contractors how to use it.

Lamar also notes that they’re willing to hear from contractors about how to boost contractor efficiency. For example, when Buckeye was developing Aristolath, they made changes to their product per the suggestions of contractors they knew. This helped to make Aristolath the contractor-friendly product it is today.
